ShiverfestSHIVERFEST, 2010

Manotick’s Community Associations (MCA and WMCA) have come together this year to give the village SHIVERFEST, the very Canadian celebration of the outdoors in winter, outdoor ice rinks, shinny, sliding and snowboarding,  building snowmen and outdoor bonfires. Part of the 150th year celebration, SHIVERFEST takes place at the end of our most shivery month, January.  Friday and Saturday, January 29 and 30, 2010 will be full of fun things to do in the snow, events that only happen in our northern climate.

Comments made by WMCA President Brian Tansley on the mandate and services of OMB before an Ontario Legislature Standing Committee on September 8, 2009

This new law obligates municipal governments to make public any dealings with developers.
As this report indicates, we are certainly not alone in our concerns regarding this style of development of areas of rural Ontario in proxmity to the urban boundary.

At the following link read about The Cost of Success

Our mission, and reason for being, is best described by the primary objective of the Manotick Secondary Plan as it now exists: "The primary objective is to preserve and maintain the quality and character of life enjoyed by the people who live or work in Manotick."

As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words" and the images below give you a visual representation of what we are fighting to preserve.

Since the West Manotick Community Association (WMCA) was formed in 1998 by concerned residents of Manotick Estates, its membership has expanded to include residents from all parts of the village.

We are concerned about the City's use of urban planning models in our rural village community. The proposed Minto Corporation's Mahogany Subdivision and its impact on the entire village are the current focus of our concerns. We believe our community's present character  as well as its future opportunities to evolve in keeping with its past are in jeopardy if this subdivision is allowed to proceed as described by Minto Corp. in their presentation of June 27th at St. Mark's High School.

We are seeking your support to ensure our community has meaningful input in the planning process associated with this project .
